|
|
Good morning all,
I imported my latest updates last night to find something odd. On a couple products, in which I had changed the detailed disc, the change took to the original product (see http://www.americover.com/14_mil_deck_cover_fire_rated_701_prd1.htm for example or original product) but wouldn't take to the linked product. In fact looking at the linked items detailed disc through the searchfit CP the html wasn't updated there.
Please keep in mind that in my spreadsheet that the import is based off of I updated both the linked and original item.
Any ideas on the cause of, solution to this would be appreciated. |

When importing, are you using a different foreign id for the product and product link? You should be.
If you are using different foreign id's then we may need a sample from your import document in order to troubleshoot. |

Ed,
Thanks for your help. The Product Id, which I believe constitutes the products foreign ID, is the same for the parent item as the linked item. It is that way for all our linked items. I do not understand why we would use a different foreign ID for the same product that is in two different categories. How would your system recognize products as linked products if not for the same foreign IDs?
This was the way it was set up when Searchfit initially sent us over our workbooks to import from.
Please let me know if I need to change this. |

| In order to update the product descriptions of your product links using the import function, you should assign each product link a foreign id before importing. The system is able to differentiate between the product vs product link by examining the "internal id", which is not related to the "foreign id" and cannot be changed. |

Ed, there could be something that is not entirely correct. I have to double check, but I think when the system creates product links, it makes it so by using the foreign ids of the products. So the import has to find two products with the same foreign id in order to make one of them a link.
We never allowed the update of the product link description before, but we changed that with the v8 release and now I don't think the product link description can be updated via import.
The workaround is to update that description manually by just editing the product link and changing that property. _________________ Stanimir Stanev (Stanley)
